Ryan Leong
No mortal man gets from Point A to Point B faster than "The Original Mobile ESPN" (His prowess in making it from one event to another would make Carl Lewis, Maurice Greene, and Justin Gatlin all drop their jaws in envy) and our favorite Bay Area Sports Reporter, Ryan Leong. Whether it is getting the latest scoop on the Boys of Summer that inhabit China Basin, inquiring into whether J Rich’s knee is ready for some more "Elevation Sensation," or asking Joe Thornton how he lit the lamp yet again, Ryan covers the local sporting landscape like no other.
Ryan Leong has been a fixture in the Bay Area sports scene providing coverage of the pro and college teams for many radio networks including ESPN Radio, the Associated Press Radio Network, XM Radio, and Sirius NFL Radio. He also has tried his hand at writing a few articles for Asian Week and the Oakland Tribune.
When Ryan isn’t busy at a game, he can be found alongside Paul Gassée at one of the hot local nightspots about the Bay enjoying an ice cold Martini (shaken, not stirred of course), or another concoction from his repertoire of sophisticated adult beverages.
What gives Ryan more credibility than some other reporters who proclaim themselves as "experts" is that he’s right there in the trenches having covered on average, more than 250 games a year: well over 2,000 since July 1998. Good reporters are not fans but objective critics of the good and the bad and Ryan has been able to give us that insight only heard here on Your Sports NightCap. In that vein, the velvet ropes are always parted for the hard-hitting yet genteel man who asks the tough questions of everyone from Jordan to Jenna Jameson and everyone in between.
While sports are seemingly his life, there are other interests that grab his attention besides a stunning blonde or brunette capable of stopping traffic.
Travel, good conversation (which he tends to initiate on the radio) in addition to appreciation of the arts and music are just part of his repertoire to go along with his vast sports knowledge.
Ladies and gladiators of sport BEWARE! If you see that debonair gentleman with a mic or a Maker’s Mark & Ginger in hand, be ready to answer the tough questions. Ryan takes mercy on no one in his quest to bring Your Sports NightCap the latest insider information every time he strides up the bar with his two favorite worldly nightlife psychologists, Neil & Paul.
